Jason Fly was one of the agents on the list of names that Carrington and Jones drew up. Presumed missing on active service. Given that I now knew that the list was suspect I decided to compare the physical characteristics of the body I exhumed with those from Rowland's medical files that were still on record in his home town of Southbourg…
I was good job I checked, Allenby: When we exhumed the man, burried here as Jason Fly, it turned out be Captain Rowland beyond doubt. He was not killed in a helicopter crash three years ago, BUT LAST YEAR BY TWO BULLETS IN THE CHEST!
The coroner's best estimate put his death at around THE DATE THAT PRESIDENT SHERIDAN WAS ASSASSINATED! What's more there was no doubt over the cause of death: The bullets had completely smashed the ribs at the level of the heart.
But… That means you're saying…
That it is POSSIBLE that the real Rowland was the assassin. What is certain, however, is that with this information we had to start our investigation again from scratch. Come along Judge, it's starting to get cold…
Incredible! What about Number XIII now? How does he fit into this whole thing?
I don't know. However, I'm pretty sure that Carrington knows that.
If Rowland had managed to pass himself off for dead during the war he must have had someone in the military helping him. At the time Carrington was the Commanding Officer of Rowland's unit, SPADS.
But Carrington's not the only person involved in this… There's also the report of the military's internal investigation into the helicopter crash. This is the report that formally identifies Rowland's body as being one of those recovered at the crash site…
